The North East Jazz Collective is a group of likeminded musicians and promoters, interested in creating and nurturing new venues and audiences, for live Jazz in the North East of England.
How it works.
Each week a band from within the collective performs a set and takes whatever money is made on the door. This is intended to be an opportunity for the band to play their own material, be it originals or arrangements, this should be a showcase opportunity and as such the bands should be well rehearsed and organised. After the main band have played, there then follows an open jam session based around the band that have just played.
The Programme
The programme of music is intended to be diverse, including regular once a month free improv - jazz slots, and any other music that may include improvisation, including more funk and groove based groups, and not just swing-based ensembles.
The Bands
So far the NEJC has enlisted the support of the following local bands and performers. Paul Edis Trio, Extreme Measures, Zoe Gilby, Ruth Lambert Quintet, Chikon, Graham Hardy, Mick Shoulder Quintet, Paul Donnelly, Alter-Ego, Michael Lamb Quartet, The Splinter Group. Alter Ego, Mark Williams Trio, Roly Veitch Trio.
